Inside the Briolette: A Conversation with our Founder, Reema Chopra

Q: The briolette cut isn’t something we see every day. How do you define it?

The briolette is unapologetically different. It’s a teardrop shape, yes, but
faceted on every single surface. It has no table, no crown, no pavilion. That
means there’s no “front” or “back.” It is the only shape that is completely
spherical. It’s all brilliance, all the time.

Q: What was your inspiration for the Briolette Collection?

I’ve always enjoyed the chandelier effect of a briolette cut, but was mostly inspired by the cut’s history. The cut has a royal history. Some say it originated in India nearly 800 years ago, while others say it was created in the 15th century. My curiosity was piqued, so I ended up falling into an internet rabbit hole of the cut’s history. Did you know that Napoleon gave Empress Marie Louise a necklace strung with ten briolette diamonds, altogether over 250 carats? That’s some gift! It has been used in countless royal pieces over the years. The more I researched, the more beauty I found in it. I couldn’t wait to design a collection using this traditional cut with a modern appeal.

Q: What sets the briolette apart from other diamond cuts?

It's freedom and movement. Most cuts are locked into metal settings. You see one angle, one face. Not the briolette. It’s suspended, it sways, it dances with you. The result? A kind of chandelier glow. It twinkles. It sparkles. It shines.

Q: People describe briolettes as creating a “light show.” Do you agree?

Absolutely. A briolette is all about movement. With every flick of your wrist or tilt of your head, it catches light and throws it back at you in unexpected ways. It’s kinetic, it’s alive, it’s glamour in motion. Honestly, it’s impossible to wear a briolette and not be noticed. It definitely has its own distinguished look.

Q: Why should someone choose a briolette today?

Because it’s not for everyone, and that’s the point. The briolette is rare, bold, and undeniably chic. It’s for someone who doesn’t want what everyone else is wearing. A briolette pendant or a pair of long, swinging earrings make a statement before you even say a word. The jewelry speaks for itself.

Q: What are your favorite pieces in the collection?

Our Briolette Chandelier Earrings, Briolette Ear Climbers, and an update to our iconic Dancing Rings and our 2 in 1 Bracelet & Necklace now featuringbriolettes. They are classic and modern. The movement, the color, the craftsmanship! They are the definition of a statement piece with elegance.
